Room (Remixes) is an ongoing project that explores the translation between images, sounds, and personal spaces. It is a series of “remixes” of physical spaces, examining the transformations that occur between data and their represented forms, as well as the glitches that emerge in these translations.
RGB Room is an image experiment that investigates the conversion between images—RAW pixel data—and sound. I extracted the RAW data from the image and transformed it into sound waves using TouchDesigner. I then modified the sound waves with the Playtron MIDI controller and converted the remixed sound back into an image. Through these modifications, the original videos and images of my bedroom were translated into a new form, composed entirely of RGB-colored pixels and ASCII characters.
Collaborating with my laptop and MIDI controller, I transformed original file formats into alternative versions of themselves through conversions between different file types. The inevitable losses and glitches that occurred during these transformations contributed to a remix effect, altering the data in various ways. For this project, I chose my bedroom as the subject of these transformations, using it as a focal point for exploration and creation. - Hazel
