Preparing an image to be woven is a completely digital process in which my main objective is to reduce the pixel count of an image to a size that will fit onto my loom. I like that destroying the quality of an image abstracts the subject and that it does so mathematically, expressionlessly. At the same time, a low-res image bears the implication of having been well-worn; uploaded, compressed, downloaded over and over. To reduce the quality of an image is to diminish its credibility, but I think the faultiness of a blurry image can also translate to a deeper sense of humanity.
